This Week’s Throwback Thursday Book is:Size Matters by Alison Bliss

Format: .mobi (Purchased)
Publisher: Forever
Release Date: November 29, 2016

Leah Martin has spent her life trying to avoid temptation. But she's sick of low-fat snacks, counting calories, and her hyper-critical mom. Fortunately, her popular new bakery keeps her good and distracted. But there aren't enough ├ęclairs in the world to distract Leah from the hotness that is Sam Cooper - or the fact that he just told her mother that they're engaged . . . which is a big, fat lie.

Sam sometime speaks before he thinks. So what started out as defending Leah's date-ability to her judgmental mother soon turned into having a fiancee! Now the plan is to keep up the fake engagement, stay "just friends," and make Leah's family loathe him enough to just call the whole thing off . But Sam has an insatiable sweet tooth, not only for Leah's decadent desserts but her decadent curves. Her full lips. Her bright green eyes. Yep, things aren't going quite according to plan. Now Sam has to convince Leah that he's for real . . . before their little lie turns into one big, sweet disaster.

What’s it About? Leah Martin ends up in a pickle when Sam Cooper announces to her mother that they’re engaged. Sure he was trying to defend her against her mother’s harsh criticisms but now they have to pretend they’re engaged long enough for Sam to make Leah’s family hate him enough so Leah can call off the engagement. The problem is that there’s a powerful attraction between them that keeps getting in the way of Sam’s decision to stay “just friends” with Leah.

Yay or Nay? Yay.

Why? Author Alison Bliss has a way with comedy, I laughed a lot with Size Matters and it made my reading experience that much more enjoyable. Sam and Leah get off on the wrong foot early on in the book but that doesn’t stop Sam from being a stand up guy when he hears Leah being maligned by her own mother. I liked Sam and Leah’s chemistry from the get go, it was a mix of flirty, antagonistic, angsty, and of course, humor. They’re both likable characters even though I did get tired of Leah constantly putting herself down with that “fat chick” mentality she had. There were A LOT of misunderstandings and assumptions that she made about almost everything Sam said that she interpreted as an insult about her weight. Leah also lacked a backbone when it came to her mother. It took her so long to finally tell her mother off that by the time she did it I was beyond frustrated with both of them. I’m just not a fan of making excuses for abusive parents and Leah made a lot of excuses for her mom, so did her father. Sam was the only one who called BS on that and I’m glad.

I did enjoy Leah’s grandparents, and her younger brother who is color blind (And Sam had fun with him there). Also, Sam’s friend Max is a hoot and I really need to see more of him!

Click It or Skip It: Click It. There’s a long running assumption about Sam’s, er, package that had me snorting out loud.
